The resort of Ubud is not only a big deal on the internet, but is also known as the cultural capital of Bali. Located inland on the map, you will be treated to lush greenery, ornate buildings and wildlife at every turn. The Tegallalang rice terrace in particular is one of the most famous viewpoints on the island. Alternatively, you can take a hike through the Monkey Forest or visit the Bird Park,  to discover some rare and beautiful species, or a visit to the zoo to see some of the larger creatures of the animal kingdom.

Visiting a temple or two (there are plenty to choose from in the area) is an absolute must. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by their beauty when you do. Admire the well-preserved Balinese architecture over the water, in enchanting gardens and in hidden valleys, to name a few.

Ubud is also a center of museums showcasing Balinese art, theater and the island's archaeological finds, where you can truly discover the essence of Bali's past and present.
