As part of the Canary Islands, a holiday on Fuerteventura is a guarantee for a sun-drenched vacation at any time of year. A short boat ride from Lanzarote, the name roughly translates to strong (fuerte) luck (ventura). The weather on Fuerteventura is pleasant all year round, with temperatures ranging between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Tourists usually visit Fuerteventura for two reasons - a little relaxation or water sports. The generally relaxed pace of life on the island makes it very easy to relax - lying in the sun during the day and eating and being entertained outdoors in the evening. Water sports lovers will find great opportunities for surfing, windsurfing or kite boarding.

Fuerteventura has arguably some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands (which is why we've included one in our poster design), with some even comparing it to the powdery white sands of the Caribbean. With more than 150km of beaches, there are every type of beach, from sweeping sand dunes to natural lagoon-like areas that are secluded and undisturbed, to lively beach bars.

The highlight of the island's calendar each year is the Our Lady of Pen Del Mar festival. Held every October, the festival began as a religious celebration but has now evolved into a 4-day party extravaganza with dancing, rides, fishing competitions and even a foam party! Hmm, maybe Fuerteventura isn't the shy and reserved island it was once thought to be.
