Lanzarote is one of those islands that attracts tourists because of its reputation as being “light and breezy, like a summer breeze,” but there are many other sights and delights that keep people coming back.

The island's capital, Arreceife (on which our beautiful image is based) is an absolute gem and offers everything you could want from a sun holiday. Here you can enjoy the same relaxed amenities of any Lanzarote resort with a more cosmopolitan feel. As you arrive, chic hotels line the promenade overlooking a huge and beautifully clean white sandy beach. Venture a little further and you'll come across the stunning marina with cute little fishing boats bobbing about on the calm waters. This is the perfect place to stop in one of the little cafes for a glass of champagne sangria and a side of Canarian potatoes with mojo sauce (a local delicacy that must be eaten).

There are some great things to see outside of the resorts, so it's worth taking the time to explore. Timanfaya National Park is a stunning place to see and learn about Lanzarote's volcanic history, not to mention the unmissable photo opportunities of the stunning dessert-like backdrop. The weekly Teguise market has long been a tourist favourite too, and is great fun to browse and barter to your heart's content, selling pretty much anything you want to buy! The Cactus Garden is a great place to spend an hour or two (especially on a cloudy day), where you can also enjoy sea views as well as a variety of different breeds of cactus.
