Located on the west coast of the United States in the US state of California, the city of San Francisco is a vibrant city that is part of music, film and pop culture. Originally founded by the Spanish in the 18th century, they gained independence and became part of Mexico before finally being claimed for the United States as part of California in 1846.

San Fran residents always seem happy and cheerful, and we may know the reason why. In 2020, San Francisco was named the city with the highest salaries and disposable income in the world, surpassing many other powerhouses, including New York and London.

San Francisco has appeared in more than its share of film and television shows. Some of the most popular include Dirty Harry (1971), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), and Mrs Doubtfire. The house that serves as the family home in Mrs Doubtfire remains a very popular tourist attraction in the city to this day.

We chose the iconic Golden Gate Bridge as the subject of our design, which for many is the city's internationally recognized landmark. Considered the most photographed bridge in the world, it was first opened in 1937, when it was the longest and highest suspension bridge in the world. Named after the Golden Gate, the waterway it spans, the bridge connects the city of San Francisco with Marin County. The other landmark the city is probably best known for is Alcatraz Island, home to a former federal prison with military fortifications until the early 1960s. The strong currents and cold waters of San Francisco Bay made prisoner escape virtually impossible, and today the island is still visited by thousands of tourists each year.
